Hilary Duff Opens Up About Complicated Relationship with Her Dad

Hilary Duff is opening up about her complicated relationship with her dad.

On her new album luck… or something, which released on Friday (February 20), she has a song titled “The Optimist” in which sings “I wish I could sleep on planes/And that my father would really love me.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Hilary expanded on those heartbreakingly honest lyrics.

“There’s times where I talk to my dad and times where I don’t talk to my dad,” she told the outlet. “I do have a pretty sunny disposition, but a lot of s–t has gone down, and that’s life.”

Elsewhere on the album, she reflected on her estrangement from sister Haylie Duff in the song “We Don’t Talk.”

She also finally broke her silence on Ashley Tisdale‘s viral “toxic” mom group essay and the surrounding conversation it ignited online.
