Susan Musa Namangale Pens Alexious Kamangila on Judicial Corruption: 15 years of waiting for Justice

By Susan Musa Namangale

Dear Alexious Kamangila …..if there’s a person who believed you when you first exposed judiciary injustice then I was in the top 5 .I openly declared i was in support of your movement because I have been a victim of judiciary injustice and so are many whose voice you represent.

I have never met you but I have believed you as one bold and courageous young man who loves Malawi and its people and this remains my perception of you no matter how others think about you .Because I love my country alot , know that i pray for you everyday that God should protect you. Today I and another victim Gordon Maunde went to the Judiciary supreme court offices to file yet another reminder of a civil accident Case no 176 whose hearing was concluded in 2010 but judgement is yet to be delivered by the judge who you described as ‘ Very lazy ‘ in your assessment yesterday! For 15 years me and the other victims and their relatives have followed up with our humble lawyer SC RJM of Racane associates who wrote many letters reminding the judge to deliver judgement and none of the letters were responded to.

Today as I filed this reminder of 2026 to the deputy Chief Justice ,I regrettably shouted at the guard who was informing me that I parked in a restricted parking lot ,am normally respectful but this reaction was influenced by how I was feeling about the Judiciary ..I owe the guard an apology and I will do that one day…The reception men at the supreme court offices were receptive and very helpful and so was the PA Malunga who received the letters and his calm voice was reassuring and we left the offices with hope.

As I was narrating the 15 years of waiting for Justice to the PA and how much it has costed me to follow up ,I got reminded of that fateful day in 2009 when my dear sister and humble driver stopped breathing in my sight when the Likanga unroadworthy truck decided to end our lives but 3 of us survived so we can live to testify of God’s mercy. My memories are fresh how the owner of the truck tried hard to influence the mtakataka police on their report but my eyes were open and even though I was restless , I made sure the police were not influenced and I remember telling the traffic officer that I knew what was going on but it was not going to work …..When the truck hit us ,the villagers instead of helping us started stealing all our things from the car while we were still inside and only one boy helped me to get out and this is how me and him managed to remove the others who were all unconscious. My sister breathed her last in my arms but I was strong as I helped the others get out as my car blew up in flames…thank you to madam Susan Liiwimbi who was travelling to join her husband at the Inauguration of late President Bingu where we would have been together and she couldn’t proceed to be with me and help me manage the situation at the accident scene.

I still remember her removing her jacket to keep me warm ,what an angel .This was and remained the first and last Mercedes Benz I owned. As the judge heard our case and even went to the scene of the accident, I thought he had empathy and he expedited the hearing of the case but it has taken 15 years since the case was concluded in 2010 but judgement was not delivered. 15 years of waiting just for a judgement to be delivered is something I have never understood….The PA empathetically listened to me as I questioned how and why but he had no answer for me But just to assure me that the letter would be acted upon .

‘For those who wait upon the Lord ,he shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like an eagle ,they shall ran and not get weary ‘ ..this verse strengthens me always and makes me patient and keep waiting…..by the way the son of my driver who died was 2 years old and is now writing JC exams this year ! Thank you for all you are doing as this means alot to malawians especially those like me who have experienced judiciary injustice ….
