Nancy Guthrie Update: FBI Has One Major Request for Public

0

The search for Nancy Guthrie is now in its 24th day. Nancy's family is now offering a $1 million reward for information leading to her return, and the FBI's $100,000 offer remains on the table.

Tuesday morning, after the seven-figure prize was announced, the FBI sent a message to the public asking for assistance and requesting a major favor.

FBI tip line still open, but with one major restriction

In a tweet, the FBI Phoenix office acknowledged the Guthrie family reward and said their own six-figure amount is still active.

The bureau also encouraged anyone with "firsthand knowledge of Nancy’s whereabouts or any information about where she may be located" to call the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324).

However, with that encouragement came a small bit of warning. The tip line is not the place for good thoughts or personal theories.

"To help keep the tip line available for actionable investigative law enforcement leads, please submit only serious and detailed fact-based information - no well-wishes or case theories," the FBI added. "The tip line is not for personal messages to the Guthrie family."

Sheriff, Savannah Guthrie reportedly had prior disagreement about reward

On Tuesday afternoon, the New York Post reported that Savannah Guthrie, Nancy's daughter of the co-host of NBC's Today, wanted to immediately offer a $1 million reward on Feb. 1, the first day her mom was reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona home.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos apparently nixed the idea over concerns that the significant monetary figure would lead to bogus tips and leads from the public.

Meanwhile, the Guthrie's $1 million reward comes with the same conditions as the FBI's and may also be split among multiple people if they provide credible information.

“We need her to come home. For that reason, we are offering a family reward of up to $1 million for any information that leads us to her recovery,” Savannah Guthrie said. “All of the information about this reward and the details is in the caption below. You can call the 1-800-TIPLINE. You can be anonymous if you want. Someone out there knows something that can bring her home. Somebody knows. We are begging you to please come forward now.”
