Travis Kelce Shares His Secrets Amid Taylor Swift Relationship
Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce has perhaps the most high-profile love story on the planet amid his engagement to pop sensation Taylor Swift. Now, he's sharing his secrets to other guys who want to make their own romantic dreams come true.
During a recent episode of his New Heights podcast, Kelce was asked for some advice on how to ask a girl out on a date, and he got rather candid as he gave a caller his best recommendations.
Travis' Success Story
Travis was obviously quite successful in his pursuit of Taylor Swift, and he did it in a rather unique way: calling her out on his podcast.
Back in August of 2023, Travis attended her Eras Tour show in Kansas City and later expressed his frustration that he didn’t get the opportunity to meet Swift and give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.
Swift obviously heard Travis' complaints and decided to give him a chance. Now, they're engaged and planning a wedding.
Clearly, Travis knows a thing or two about asking a girl out, and he shared his expertise this week.
Kelce Gives Dating Advice
On the most recent episode of his New Heights podcast, which he films alongside his brother, Jason, the two brothers were asked for advice on asking a girl on a date.
Travis immediately replied with a helpful tip.
“I think first you gotta figure out what do you like about her?” Travis asked. “You like the way she looks? She likes the way she dresses? You like how funny she is? You like how kind she is?”
Travis then suggested a “compliment” on their favorite thing about the girl.
“That will get you in the door or at least,” Travis said. “You gauge how she reacts to that and then that gives you a better understanding of whether or not she would be willing to go out with you. But that's always a good conversation starter to let someone know that you like them.”
What Not To Do
While Travis offered some helpful advice, Jason told them “the old Ed Kelce tip-off,” joking that their dad would suggest the caller “find her unattractive friend and you befriend her and you start making her feel like she’s interested.”
Travis, to his credit, quickly warned that this is very bad advice, calling it "bogus."
“Do not listen to that advice. That is the 1950s way of dating,” Travis said.
Just Ask Her Out
The best advice that the two brothers could give is actually the simplest: just do it.
“Here's what you do, you ask her out,” Jason said.
Travis agreed, pointing out that the worst thing that could possibly happen is simply getting turned down.
“Yeah, there's no other way around it other than you just gotta just gotta do it, man,” Travis said. “You just gotta own it. You gotta have some cojones. What's the worst she's gonna say? No?”
That said, Travis did say that it's a good idea to “have something in the back pocket” when having that conversation.
“Have a conversation starter and then have a nice segue into maybe hanging out at the movies or at the mall or wherever your destination is,” Travis said. “You gotta have a destination where you wanna take her. That's enticing. And then, yeah, go from there, bud.”
