Thrill seekers will hop into one of four authentic “Fast & Furious” film cars and race around a hillside-hugging track while drifting and spinning in circles when the new Hollywood Drift roller coaster debuts this summer at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Universal offered a first look at all four of the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift ride vehicles and the load/unload station for the attraction coming to the Upper Lot of the Hollywood theme park during a media preview on Wednesday, March 4.

All five of the Hollywood Drift coaster trains will have the same four Fast & Furious cars in the same order – Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R and Toyota Supra MK IV.

The red brick wall in the auto repair garage load/unload station for Hollywood Drift features a freehand spray-painted mural by Los Angeles street artist Tristan Eaton. The painting features the final street racing scene from the original film in the Fast & Furious saga with the Dodge Charger and Toyota Supra flying through the air.

The first-of-its-kind drift coaster coming to Universal Studios Hollywood will feature 360-degree rotating coaster vehicles designed to look like drifting race cars from the street racing film franchise that has earned $7 billion at the worldwide box office.

The 4,100-foot-long track will employ sound reduction technology to lessen the noise from the coaster for Universal’s residential neighbors.

Hollywood Drift will hit a top speed of 72 mph – the fastest coaster at any Universal theme park.

The new Fast & Furious coaster will top the 70 mph VelociCoaster at Islands of Adventure in Florida – the reigning speed king at Universal parks.

Universal Studios Hollywood began on-track testing of the new Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster in October 2025.

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will be the first high-speed outdoor coaster at Universal Studios Hollywood. The park’s two existing coasters include the 2004 Revenge of the Mummy indoor coaster and the 2016 Flight of the Hippogriff outdoor kiddie coaster.

The addition of the new Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster forced Universal Studios Hollywood to remove the former Fast & Furious – Supercharged experiential attraction that was part of the park’s signature behind-the-scenes Studio Tour.

The Hollywood Drift in the coaster name references the 2006 Universal Pictures “Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” action film. Drift racers intentionally oversteer to the point of losing traction while maintaining control of the car.

A second Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster with a vertical spike track will open in 2027 at Universal Studios Florida.

Universal has announced the new “Fast Forever” film will debut in theaters in March 2028.
