Was the recruitment really that bad? (12 replies)

We signed a whole load of players that we were all, generally, excited about. Great pedigree, good records, rave reviews. It turned out more than hoped were duds, so in the January window we went and got better players, with pace and power and height.

We don't look any better.

Which means either:

a. We've consistently bought bad players, even the international ones
b. We've consistently bought players who are bad fits, even though they were on paper exactly what we need
c. They're being mismanaged

I'm not a CD Out zealot or anything, but I was believing the idea that pace and power would fix everything and we'd be alright. I overlooked the fact CD fell out with fringe players because honestly, who cares if Dykes and Anderson like him or not?

But I'm starting to veer towards the idea that maybe another manager would get a lot more out of not only the new players, but the ones that have been 'duds' so far. Maybe even Kyogo would have scored more if he wasn't constantly being dropped at the start of the season when we desperately needed him played into form (probably not). Maybe Kanya could solve some of our creativity issues. Maybe Ducksch doesn't want the ball pelted at his head and should be involved in build-up more. Maybe even BOS could be taught where to stand.

I'm sure they aren't all great, but too many of the signings have been poorer than expected for it to *just* be a recruitment issue, imo.
