Conan O'Brien Breaks Silence on Rob Reiner Christmas Party Incident Before Tragic Murder

0

Conan O’Brien is speaking out again about the tragic deaths of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner—and the uncomfortable spotlight that followed.

On Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered dead inside their Los Angeles home. Both had suffered apparent stab wounds, and within hours, their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was taken into custody on suspicion of killing them.

Nick appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court last month, where he was charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment, but if he’s convicted, he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole. His next court date is scheduled for April 29.

The shocking deaths sent waves through Hollywood, not only due to the grim circumstances, but because Rob and Michele had spent the night before with friends and big name Hollywood stars.

What Happened the Night Before

On Dec. 13, the couple attended Conan O’Brien’s famous holiday party, which is known to draw a star-studded crowd. Their son Nick was also there, but according to reports, the evening didn’t end on the best note after Nick and Rob got into what was described as a “very loud argument.”

One source told People that Nick—who has previously spoken openly about struggles with addiction—was behaving erratically during the party. The insider claimed he was “freaking everyone out” and repeatedly asked guests, including Jane Fonda and Bill Hader, “if they were famous.”

Prosecutors believe Nick later fatally stabbed both of his parents in the early hours of Dec. 14. Their bodies were found around 3:40 p.m. that afternoon, by which time Nick had already fled the scene.

Conan O'Brien briefly addressed the tragedy during a February interview with the New Yorker, recalling the last moment he saw his friends that night.

“To have that experience of saying good night to somebody and having them leave and then find out the next day that they're gone…I think I was in shock for quite a while afterward,” he said.

Now, the podcast host is opening up again—this time about what it's like being caught in the media frenzy that followed the murders.

Conan's Recent Comments

“Very simply, we had a party, we invited our really good friends and then, the next day, this terrible thing happened,” Conan revealed in a new cover story with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of hosting the Oscars on Sunday. He went on to emphasize that any attention on him and his wife pales in comparison to what the Reiner family is dealing with.

“Whatever difficulties my wife and I have experienced having our name attached to it are nothing compared to the scale of the tragedy for the family and the loss of Rob and Michele,” he said.

As O'Brien explained, it’s an unfortunate reality of being in the public eye.

“If you’re a known person, your name is going to get dragged into things sometimes, but it is not a hardship,” he said. “There is only sadness that they’re gone.”
