Tottenham hierarchy hold Igor Tudor talks as former Spurs star is contacted
The Tottenham Hotspur hierarchy are weighing up their next move after another damaging defeat, with Igor Tudor’s position coming under increasing scrutiny behind the scenes.
Tuesday’s 5-2 defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid in the Champions League felt like a new low for Tottenham Hotspur, who were well beaten before the 30th-minute mark.
For most of the first half, it felt like men against boys, as a rampant Atletico Madrid side tore Tottenham to shreds, capitalising on every individual mistake.
For Tudor, one big decision – leaving first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario out of his side – blew up in his face, as replacement Antonin Kinsky made several mistakes that left Spurs chasing the game as early as the 16th minute.
He was eventually substituted, and Spurs fell to their fourth defeat under the Croat, which has now left Tudor’s future very uncertain.
Tottenham hierarchy rethink Igor Tudor plan after Atletico Madrid defeat
TeamTalk has now claimed that, following the most recent defeat, the Spurs hierarchy are now in talks, having previously decided that Tudor would get until after the Atletico Madrid second leg.
It is claimed that while they continue their work behind the scenes, former Tottenham man Robbie Keane is the preferred option to get them out of the complete mess they currently find themselves in.
That is according to their correspondent Graeme Bailey, who explained the situation while discussing the ongoing talks within the club’s leadership structure.
He said: “The club’s hierarchy are now in talks having previously decided that Tudor would get until after the Atletico second leg… but the first leg defeat has forced a rethink.
“Tottenham’s hierarchy are in regular contact with the Lewis Family, whilst Daniel Levy – still a significant shareholder in ENIC – is being kept informed and aware of the situation.
“As it stands the club are continuing to do work, as they have been for more than a week, on options to replace Igor Tudor – the hierarchy are aware that the squad have not reacted to Tudor as they hoped.
“Robbie Keane has been spoken to, but he is also a top target for Crystal Palace and has been linked to Celtic heading into the summer.
“Spurs are considering all options and we understand a host of agents and intermediaries have contacted them about potential replacements. But Keane is very much a preferred option.”
Spurs may face competition for Robbie Keane
Robbie Keane was linked with the Tottenham role before Tudor was appointed following the dismissal of Thomas Frank.
At the time, it was claimed that Keane was not keen on leaving Hungarian side Ferencvaros for an interim role.
It remains to be seen if the manager’s stance has changed now, as Tottenham might soon be in search of a new interim boss should Tudor be sacked.
Keane, however, does not need to rush a decision as he remains very much appreciated by sides in Europe, with Crystal Palace keen and Celtic also linked.
