New ‘Family Guy’ Spin-Off Announced — and It’s Already Renewed for Two Seasons

0

Fresh off the recent announcement that the Ted TV series will likely end after Season 2, Seth MacFarlane has a new project — another based on a beloved franchise of his.

Stewie, a spin-off series based on the Griffin family's youngest member, will officially premiere next year, according to an exclusive report by Deadline. The series has been given a two-season order by Fox, and will premiere during the 2027-28 season, streaming the next day on Hulu and internationally on Disney+.

Stewie will follow the infant "in preschool and explore time and space travel," according to the outlet. MacFarlane, who also voices the character, will act as executive producer for the new series. Kirker Butler, a long-time Family Guy writer and producer, will serve as showrunner. The episode count is said to be approximately 15 episodes per season, although this is yet to be fully confirmed.

The official synopsis from Deadline details that, "after getting the boot from his old preschool, Stewie is forced to enroll in a new one that’s not exactly top-of-the-line. It’s attended by a handful of kids he doesn’t know, and a 75-year-old class turtle with a half-cocked theory on just about every subject."

"Stewie’s miserable, the other kids are miserable, and even the turtle is miserable… until Stewie begins rolling out his trusty array of devices to take them anywhere in space and time, turning every boring day at school into an insane and surreal adventure."

Of course, this is not the first Family Guy spin-off. The Cleveland Show ran for 4 seasons and 88 episodes, from 2009 to 2013. MacFarlane's other animated family comedy, American Dad!, has been going strong since 2005, celebrating its 20th anniversary last year. This week, it was announced that another adult comedy franchise from MacFarlane, Ted, will be getting a third film, with Mark Wahlbergand Amanda Seyfried set to reprise their roles, with MacFarlane yet again providing the voice of the titular character.
