Four arrested in nationwide police operation

Four people were arrested during nationwide policing operations carried out on Saturday night, the police said.

Arrests were made for offences including illegal stay in the Republic and illegal employment.

The operations also included extensive traffic checks, during which 11 vehicles were impounded.

Two drivers tested positive in preliminary roadside checks for driving under the influence of drugs, while ten others were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police said that during the overnight operation officers stopped 366 vehicles for inspection and checked a total of 442 individuals.

Authorities also carried out 52 inspections of premises, which resulted in 26 reports being filed as part of efforts to tackle ‘unlawful activity’.

In addition, 132 traffic violations were reported during the checks, with 11 cases still under investigation.

Police also conducted 160 breathalyser tests for alcohol, with ten drivers returning positive results.
