Jim Jordan derails DHS funding to preserve warrantless migrant arrests
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) threatened Wednesday to derail DHS funding negotiations, rejecting Democratic demands requiring judicial warrants before immigration enforcement agents raid homes.
Speaking on CNBC, Jordan dismissed the warrant requirement as "crazy" and described Democratic demands as "stupid," lacking "common sense."
The disagreement prompted a partial government shutdown, causing airport chaos with unpaid TSA agents. Jordan characterized the 16-17 Democratic demands as unreasonable, singling out the warrant requirement as their top priority.
He insisted Republicans cannot accept the condition.
CNBC host Joe Kernen warned Republicans to resolve the impasse quickly, noting midterm elections are approaching and Republicans may lose congressional control after November.
The funding standoff continues as Democrats insist on constitutional due process protections during immigration raids while Republicans prioritize unfettered enforcement operations.
