Wednesday’s freezing temperatures could kill sensitive plants in DC region
Don’t be lured into comfort by recent 80-degree days — frigid temperatures moving into parts of the D.C. region early Wednesday morning could kill sensitive plants.
The National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch for areas west of Interstate 95. The watch is in effect at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday morning until 9 a.m., as temperatures are expected to drop to sub-freezing temperatures as low as 31.
The freeze watch covers the D.C. region, including Anne Arundel, Prince George’s and Charles counties in Maryland. King George County and the Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria areas of Virginia, plus the District.
That frosty chill could ruin crops, sensitive vegetation and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing, according to the National Weather Service.
If your plant can’t be brought inside, some experts recommend using plastic to help keep frost off.
Dry & occasionally breezy winds will persist until sundown. This comes with increasing clouds into the evening. Meanwhile, with growing season underway over much of the area, Freeze Watches have been issued for Tue night-Wed morning for areas along/west of I-95. #WVwx #VAwx #MDwx pic.twitter.com/jjfElRF9uM
