GOP Rep. Brandon Gill Leads Charge to Kill Republican-Backed ‘DIGNIDAD Act’ Amnesty Bill: ‘It’s in a Foreign Language for Added Insult’
Rep. Brandon Gill is publicly opposing an immigration bill that he argues would provide amnesty for illegal aliens, even though it is being pushed by some members of the Republican Party.
The legislation, H.R. 4393, is formally titled the DIGNIDAD (Dignity) Act of 2025.
The bill’s full name is the “Dignity for Immigrants while Guarding our Nation to Ignite and Deliver the American Dream Act of 2025.” It was introduced in July by Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, along with Democrat co-sponsor Rep. Veronica Escobar.
According to Gill, the bill’s Spanish acronym “DIGNIDAD” is an insult on top of the policy itself.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Gill wrote, “It’s actually not called the ‘Dignity Act’ It’s called the ‘DIGNIDAD Act’ It’s in a foreign language for added insult.”

In another post, Gill wrote, “The clearest way for Republicans to tell our voters we viscerally hate them is passing the ‘Dignity Act’ or any other amnesty bill.”

“The Dignity Act is mass amnesty and would constitute a terrible betrayal of our voters,” Gill added.

The bill surprisingly has bipartisan support, with 39 cosponsors.
Among the Republican cosponsors are Reps. Michael Lawler, David Valadao, Dan Newhouse, Mike Kelly, Brian Fitzpatrick, Gabe Evans, Marlin Stutzman, Don Bacon, Young Kim, Mario Díaz-Balart, and others.
Proponents, including Rep. Salazar, insist the measure is not amnesty.
They describe it as a “Dignity Program” that would allow certain illegal aliens who have been in the U.S. for years to earn temporary legal work status after paying restitution, back taxes, and meeting other requirements.
The bill also includes border security provisions such as mandatory E-Verify, physical barriers, technology upgrades, and asylum reforms.
Salazar’s office has repeatedly asserted that it offers “no path to citizenship” and “no federal benefits.”

Critics, including Gill, counter that any legalization program for people who entered the country illegally constitutes amnesty and undermines the clear mandate voters delivered for strict enforcement and mass deportations.
