U.S., Iran likely to resume talks soon: WSJ

0

Regional efforts are underway to bring United States and Iran back to the negotiating table after talks in Islamabad ended without a breakthrough.

According to The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, diplomatic channels remain open despite ongoing differences between Washington and Tehran, with a second round of talks likely in the coming days.

The report said regional countries are actively consulting with the United States to preserve and potentially extend the fragile two-week ceasefire agreed during recent mediation efforts.

Despite the lack of immediate progress, diplomats believe the talks process has not collapsed, and behind-the-scenes engagement continues to prevent renewed escalation.

Masoud Pezeshkian has said there are still pathways to reach an agreement, but stressed that Washington must abandon what he described as “hegemonic” behavior and respect Iran’s rights.

The Islamabad talks followed weeks of heightened tensions and direct confrontation involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.

A temporary ceasefire, reportedly brokered with mediation by Pakistan, helped pause hostilities and opened the door for diplomatic engagement.

Analysts say continued regional mediation efforts could be key to sustaining the ceasefire and paving the way for renewed negotiations, though deep mistrust between the two sides remains a major obstacle.
