Trump warns China of “big problems” over possible arms to Iran

Donald Trump warned that China would face “big problems” if it moves forward with supplying weapons to Iran, amid heightened tensions following a fragile ceasefire.

Trump’s remarks came in response to reports that Beijing could deliver air defence systems to Iran, possibly through third countries, even as peace talks were underway in Islamabad.

According to CNN, citing U.S. intelligence, China may send military equipment to Iran in the coming weeks, while Tehran is using the pause in fighting to strengthen its air defence capabilities.

“If China does that, China is going to have big problems,” Trump said, without specifying what actions Washington might take in response to such a move.

The allegations come despite China’s claims that it played a constructive role in supporting diplomatic efforts and the recent ceasefire between Iran and the United States after weeks of fighting involving Israel.

Beijing has denied providing weapons or military technology to Iran, with its defence ministry rejecting reports that Chinese firms supplied satellite imagery or semiconductor equipment to Tehran during the conflict.

China has said it “firmly opposes” what it described as disinformation targeting its role, while maintaining that it supports stability and dialogue in the Middle East.

Trump has also threatened tariffs of up to 50% on countries supplying arms to Iran, a move that could strain U.S.-China relations and complicate an already fragile global trade environment.
