Talia Ryder has replaced Sophie Thatcher in the lead role, and Mark Eydelshteyn takes over for Donald Glover, according to Variety.
The first season was led by Sophie and Donald, with Francesca Sloane as showrunner and writer. Beef‘s Anna Ouyang Moench is now taking over in that role.
The show reportedly got a $22.4 million tax credit from the California Film Commission to relocate to LA, Variety also reports.
It was supposed to start filming in fall of 2025, but was placed on an “indefinite delay.”
Mr. & Mrs. Smith is reportedly moving forward as an anthology series, as opposed to continuing the story of the two lead actors from the first season. It’s inspired by the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, but in the show, it’s two strangers as partners in espionage, not a married couple.
