Amazon is online shoppers’ top choice from Black Friday to Cyber Monday, putting it in prime position to win the biggest share of the $23.4 billion in US e-commerce sales projected for Thanksgiving weekend.
In an informal survey of Business Insider readers, Business Insider Intelligence found that 58% of respondents said the majority of products they buy online from Black Friday through Cyber Monday will be through Amazon, dwarfing Best Buy’s second place share of 10%.
The data isn't representative of the general population, as Business Insider readers tend to be younger, male, and tech savvy, though it provides strong evidence that Amazon is in a great position to win sales from a key group of online shoppers and further its dominance of US e-commerce.
Here are the findings:
- Ninety-six percent of consumers who plan to do most of their online shopping with Amazon would shop more with another e-tailer if it offers the right features.
- Thirty-five percent of this group stated that they’ll shop more with another retailer if discounts are available on newly released products.
- Meanwhile, 26% said they’ll shop elsewhere if an e-tailer offers more options for the types of products they’re looking for, and 19% said the same if the company offers free shipping regardless of how much they spend.
According to Business Insider Intelligence’s Amazon Commerce Competitive Edge Report, 66% of Amazon customers shop other e-tailers before buying products on Amazon. E-tailers should take advantage of shoppers’ reasons to leave the e-commerce titan during Thanksgiving weekend — and some already are.
