In 1971, food editor Charlotte Walker felt she had to explain why she was yet again running a recipe for Charleston Kiss Pie. "I believe tourists among our readers, unfamiliar with the delicacy, would enjoy adding Charleston Kiss Pie to their collections of regional recipes," she wrote apologetically.
