Leaders of 21 Asia Pacific countries condemned all acts of terrorism, including the recent attacks in Paris and Beirut, and called for increased global cooperation to prevent such menace from derailing growth in the region. They were, however, silent on South China Sea dispute. US President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping, jointly stressed “the urgent need for increased international cooperation and solidarity in the fight against terrorism” in light of recent atrocities in Egypt and Paris, in a draft statement seen by The Wall Street Journal. Wrapping up the two-day Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Manila, the leaders led by President Aquino also recognized that promoting inclusive growth is a vital weapon to curb terrorism and radicalization of groups or persons that pose threat to security.
