Ascension 2024 – J2 – C’est un GR tellement que ça porte (Clarée/Durance)

Lors de la deuxième journée, le club a décidé de faire une décente de la Clarée. La Clarée se trouve au nord de Briançon. Normalement, la rivière est de classe III ou IV-, mais elle est connue pour avoir beaucoup d’arbres.
11 participants : Agathe, Christelle, François, Jérôme, Julie, Killyan, Luc, Phil, PY, Stéphane M, Stéphane U.
Le club a débuté la journée près de la commune de Névache, en embarquant au pont juste au-dessus de la section III/IV. Le niveau était d’environ 15 m3/s sur Riverapp ; un niveau moyen.
Agathe a failli partir sans sa jupe mais les conducteurs de la navette ont rattrapé le coup de justesse (gratitude éternelle!). Phil fut le premier à prendre un bain. Il accuse un mauvais choix de bateau ! Il avait déjà fait la section P3 avec ses amis anglais, il s’attendait donc à ce que la rivière soit une douce II/III. Il a choisi son ‘Fluid Spice’ pour la journée, qui est un petit bateau, avec quelques caractéristiques d’un playboat. Ce bateau est idéal pour les rivières avec beaucoup d’eau. Mais la section P2 l’a pris de court ! Après seulement 5 minutes, il tente un eskimo, mais ne parvient pas à éviter un arbre en remontant. Après avoir pris un bain, il resta sur un rocher au centre de la rivière, admirant la vue. Les membres du club ont profité de l’occasion pour mettre en pratique leurs compétences en matière de sécurité, notamment en installant une corde pour aider Phil à retourner vers la rive à la nage. Il prendra un kayak plus adapté la prochaine fois !!!
Après cela, le groupe a bien continué tout au long de la section P2. Killyan a pris encore deux bains, mais à chaque fois les membres ont bien récupéré le bateau pour repartir.
Après la section P2, la rivière devient plus plate et plus lente. Cette section est d’une classe inférieure au P2. Cependant, cette section est connue pour être souvent bloquée par des arbres. Pour cette raison, le groupe doit avancer avec prudence, en s’assurant d’avoir suffisamment de temps pour s’arrêter si un arbre bloque le chemin. Après une longue navigation, avec de nombreux portages, nous nous arrêtons au camping près de La Draye pour déjeuner. La pause a été l’occasion de faire un atelier décoration de sandwich histoire de faire baisser les stocks de sauce…
L’évaluation de la rivière par les passagers du Q5 :
Points positifs :
-Paysage trop beau
-Début joueur sportif mais rigolo (cardio)
Points négatifs :
-Beaucoup trop d’arbres et portages
-Trop de cailloux
-Fin longue
Luc : j’ai utilisé le signe « infran » sur cette navig plus souvent que dans toute ma « carrière »

L’après-midi était à choix multiples : un groupe a fait une nouvelle descente, un autre est parti en sortie shopping à SND et quelques-uns sont rentrés au camping.
La dernière rivière de la journée était Le Fontenil / Gorges de Briançon. Il s’agit d’une gorge courte et rapide passant devant la vieille ville de Briançon, classée III+, mais souvent un peu plus difficile. Le groupe n’était pas sûr d’avoir du temps dans la journée, mais Phil les a rassurés en leur disant que son record était de 8 minutes ! Le groupe est parti du haut du Fontenil, près du pont. Après une courte section rebondissante, un barrage est atteint. Il y a un toboggan en bois à droite pour permettre le passage des kayakistes. Après cela, la section des gorges commence. Le rapide le plus difficile est un virage en forme de S, que le groupe a négocié sans problème. Après une courte pause, le groupe a continué jusqu’au bout sans problème. Le groupe a débarqué au sport habituel, près de Carrefour.
Pendant ce temps, PY a fait chauffer sa carte bleue à SND en renouvelant presque tout son équipement. Il est revenu en kayak jusqu’au camping avec Stéphane M. pour tester une portion calme et bucolique pour de prochaines sorties. Section tout à fait validée par les ouvreurs. En parallèle, c’était l’effervescence au camping autour du nouveau Turtle bag de Stéphane U. (SND participe à toutes vos envies et sorties) en prévision de voyages, expéditions et surtout portages casse-pied. Mention spéciale à Killyan qui a mis au point une technique très concluante pour porter/poser son bateau en vue du baby derby en un temps record. Les essais sur le reste de la team baby derby étaient moins concluants mais un entraînement spécifique va être planifié.

On the second day, the club decided to make a decent of the Clarée. The Clarée is to the north side of Briançon. Normally, the river is class III or IV-, but it is known for having lots of trees.
11 participants: Agathe, Christelle, François, Jérôme, Julie, Killyan, Luc, Phil, PY, Stéphane M, Stéphane U.
The club began the day near the town of Névache, starting at the bridge just above the III/IV section. The level was around 15m/s on Riverapp; a medium level.
Agathe nearly launched without a skirt but the shuttle drivers saved the game (eternal thanks!). Phil was the first one to enjoy a bath. He blames a bad choice of boat! He had done the P3 section before with his English friends, so he expected the river to be a gentle II/III. He selected his ‘fluid spice’ for the day, which is a small boat, with some features of a playboat. This boat is nice for rivers with a lot of water. But the P2 section took him by surprise! After only 5 minutes, he took an eskimo, but was not able to avoid a tree after coming back up. After taking a bath, he remained on a rock in the centre of the river, admiring the view. The club members took the chance to practice their safety skills, including setting up a rope to help Phil swim back across to the bank. He will take a proper kayak next time!!!
After that, the group continued well through the P2 section. Killyan took two more baths, but each time the members did well to recover the boat and get going again.
After the P2 section, the river becomes flatter and slower. This section is a lower grade than the P2. However, this section is known for often being blocked by trees. For this reason, the group must go with caution, making sure they have enough time to stop if a tree blocks the path. After a long paddle, with many portages, we stopped at the camping near La Draye for lunch. The break was an opportunity to do a sandwich decoration workshop in order to reduce the massive stocks of sauces…
River rating by the passengers of the Q5 shuttle :
Positive points :
-Stunning landscape
-Tricky but fun start (much cardio)
Negative points :
-Far too many trees and portages
-Too many rocks
-Unending stretch in the last section
Luc : I used the ‘impassable’ signal on this descent more than ever in my kayaking career

There were different options for the afternoon : a group went for another paddle, another went shopping at SND and a few people went back to the campsite.
The final river of the day was Le Fontenil / Briancon gorge. This is a short, fast gorge run past the old town of Briançon, graded III+, but often feeling a little harder. The group was not sure if they had time in the day, but Phil reassured them they did when he told them his record is 8 minutes! The group began at the top of Le Fontenil, near the bridge. After a short, bouncy, section, a barrage is reached. There is a wooden slide to the right to allow the kayakers to pass. After that, the gorge section begins. The hardest rapid is an s shaped turn, which the group negotiated without a problem. After a short break, the group continued to the end without a problem. The group disembarked at the usual sport, near Carrefour.
Meanwhile, PY was on a shopping spree at the SND shop and renewed nearly all his gear. He paddled back to the campsite with Stéphane M. on a calmer and pastoral section of the river that was unexplored so far. It is now in the books for future trips. At the same time, the campsite was brimming with excitement around Stéphane U.’s new Turtle bag (SND definitely caters to all your needs). He wanted to test it for future trips, expeditions or bothering portages and started a full workshop on the spot. The group gave a shout-out to Killyan who set up a very efficient technique to carry/drop the boat for the baby derby on the Vénéon river (supposedly in September) in no time. Other attempts by the rest of the baby derby team were less successful but a specific training will be provided.
