In attesa della seconda semifinale tra Matteo Berrettini e Stefanos Tsitsipas, nella prima partita di giornata sulla terra rossa di Gstaad (Svizzera) c’è stata una sorpresa. Il francese Quentin Halys (n.192 del mondo) si imposto contro il tedesco Jan-Lennard Struff (n.37 del ranking) con lo score di 6-3 7-6 (2). Non brillante il teutonico e bravo il transalpino a sfruttare i passaggi a vuoto del suo avversario.
Nel primo set Halys si trova subito con le spalle al muro, costretto a cancellare quattro palle break, di cui tre consecutive (0-40). Superato questo ostacolo, il francese mette tanta aggressività nel proprio tennis e Struff fa fatica. Nel sesto game il tedesco ricorre al servizio per cancellare una palla break, ma nell’ottavo non può nulla. La prima frazione, quindi, si conclude sul 6-3.
Nel secondo set il teutonico rischia grosso, con qualche errore di troppo. Halys, però, non ne approfitta e non concretizza la palla break. Da quel momento sono i servizi a farla da padroni e l’epilogo al tie-break è inevitabile. La gestione, in questo caso, del transalpino è perfetta e sul 7-2 stacca il biglietto per l’atto conclusivo.
Leggendo le statistiche, da sottolineare i 16 ace messi a segno dal n.192 del mondo rispetto ai soli 2 di Struff. Bassissima la percentuale di prime in campo del tedesco (49%) e pochi i punti ottenuti con la seconda (43%). Prestazione da incorniciare per Halys con 37 vincenti e 7 errori gratuiti.
