Víctor de Aldama , pieza central en el caso Koldo , reconoció ante la Audiencia Nacional haber gestionado en México contratos para empresas españolas interesadas en la construcción del Tren Maya , una de las obras insignia del sexenio del expresidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador ubicada en el sureste del país. En agradecimiento por esas gestiones, señaló Aldama, se fotografió con el presidente de gobierno Pedro Sánchez en febrero del 2019. Diversas empresas españolas participaron del proyecto.
