Atyrau residents fear buying meat due to anthrax

0

Tengrinews.kz – Residents of Atyrau are hesitant to buy meat due to concerns over anthrax, reports ATPress.kz. Meat sellers are suffering losses.
It was reported that three cows have died from anthrax in Atyrau, and two workers from the slaughterhouse of the "AsylAgro" farm (the livestock market) have been infected. As a result, residents have stopped buying beef.
According to meat sellers, Atyrau residents are cautiously purchasing lamb and horse meat but are completely avoiding beef.

"Our beef undergoes strict inspections. The first check is during slaughter, and the second is in the market laboratory. In recent days, sales of horse meat and lamb have increased, likely because there have been no anthrax cases among these animals. We even had to lower prices to avoid losing stock. We're selling beef for 1,500, 2,000, and 2,500 tenge," said seller Elmira Baidulaeva.

However, she assured that meat can be purchased without concern, as it only reaches the shelves after a double check.
Earlier, it was reported that an Atyrau resident tested positive for anthrax.
To recall, a cow brought to a livestock market in the Atyrau region died from anthrax, as was later confirmed. On November 20, a quarantine was imposed at the market, and the slaughterhouse was temporarily closed.
