'Listed in Red Book': Footage of rare animal captured in Kazakhstan

0
Tengrinews.kz - A video featuring lynxes, filmed in the Ile-Alatau National Park, has surfaced online.
The footage was shared on the official page of the Committee for Forestry and Wildlife. The video was captured using camera traps installed within the park.

"There are 48 species of mammals registered in the park, five of which are listed in Kazakhstan’s Red Book. One such rare species is the Turkestan lynx (Felis lynx isabellinus). This feline predator is extremely elusive, and its presence in the wild is typically monitored through camera traps. During monitoring conducted in the spring and fall of 2024, lynxes were captured on camera traps set up by inspectors near mineral licks," the committee stated.

The committee emphasized that data collected via camera traps is "vital for preserving Kazakhstan's biodiversity."

"Continuous monitoring will help us better understand the behavior of Turkestan lynxes and develop measures for their protection," the committee added.

Previously, footage of Siberian mountain goats and wild boars was also captured in the Ile-Alatau National Park.
