“Mixed up Miami and Almaty“: Tourist surprises Kazakhstani residents
A video gaining popularity online shows a tourist dressed for summer weather calmly waiting for a taxi at Almaty International Airport. Wearing shorts, a T-shirt, and sandals, the man’s choice of attire seemed quite out of place for wintery Kazakhstan.
It appears the brave traveler was unprepared for the harsh Kazakh frosts. While locals bundle up in puffer jackets and hats, the man in the video appears unfazed, as if he had landed on a Miami beach rather than in a snow-covered metropolis.

The video sparked lively discussion online, with hundreds of comments, many infused with humor.
“He’s lucky he didn’t mix up his flight with one to Astana,” one user joked. Others chimed in: “Just like Kevin from Home Alone,” “I thought this only happened in movies,” and “Once, I also landed in Warsaw from Tel Aviv wearing shorts. It happens.”
Others speculated that the man might not have been aware of Kazakhstan's harsh winters.
“Maybe he saw beautiful photos of Almaty and thought it’s summer here year-round?” and “I feel so bad for him; it’s freezing even with a jacket, and he’s in just shorts!” commented some users sympathetically.
One commenter shared that she was on the same flight as the man to Kuala Lumpur. She noted that the tourist mentioned he had stepped outside just to see the snow.
Some users recalled similar experiences from their own lives.
“When I was flying from Istanbul to Almaty, there were tourists in sundresses and flip-flops at the airport too. Back then, I wondered: aren’t they cold?” shared another user.
