Three competitions during the last week all played in dry but cold weather for the Costa del Sol. On Saturday, for the Three Club Challenge, there was some pleasant afternoon sun just before the Rugby started. What a Saturday it was for Rugby. The results pleased some and were disappointing for others. Sounds like golf!!
MEN’S Competition Tuesday February 4th
A slightly smaller field than usual which would have been even smaller had the ACL Match not been cancelled the previous day as Los Naranjos was closed due to heavy rain. The majority of the team making a late entry to the Tuesday competition. Pin positions on the day were not easy and were reflected in the scores. The winner, Johan Bjarnle had 39 points and was 4 points clear of the field. A strange occurrence was nearest the pin on the 12th. Probably one of the easiest Par 3’s on the course but nobody managed to hit the green.

MEN’S Competition Thursday February 6th
Difficult conditions with a cold and strong wind greeted the small field of 19 players. There were some question marks whether Paul Ingebrigtsen had played the same course as the rest of us. His winning score of 41 points was 7 points clear of the rest of the field. Well played Paul and a well deserved cut of 1.2. This was also the first comp of the year where the ASC (PCC) was plus 2 and hardly surprising with only 7 players breaking 30. We were all hoping for gentler conditions for the Three Club Challenge on Saturday.
Results
1 st – Paul Ingebrigtsen – 41pts 2 nd – David Macgregor – 34pts 3 rd – Michael Keane – 33pts 4 th – Ian Jones – 33pts on Hcp
The talk during the week was “what clubs are you taking for the three club challenge?”. I did some research on the subject and by the time I had finished was totally confused. The only useful piece of info was that generally a putter was needed. I can confirm it was correct. What started out, for the 40 players who participated, was a calm early morning which rapidly turned to the customary strong wind. With only three clubs in the bag it made selection very easy. The Ladies were obviously the masters of this competition filling the first four places. Congratulations to Anne Middlehurst winning with 33 points and Liz Griffiths finishing second with 32 points. Nearest the pin for ladies was also Anne Middlehurst..

There are several new areas marked on the course as GUR. We hope this will remove discussions as to whether its GUR or not. A fuller explanation of the conditions for GUR will be sent later this week. The Mixed competition on February 20 will change to a Pairs Better Ball for Men. The ladies will be running their own Individual Stableford.
