Louvre robbery: journalists uncover the secret of the “elegant detective“

0

Tengrinews.kz – After the Louvre robbery, a photographer captured French police near the museum gates — and beside them, a mysterious man wearing a hat, tie, three-piece suit, and holding an umbrella. The photo went viral worldwide, sparking curiosity. Journalists from Spiegel uncovered the truth.
Some social media users thought he was a detective investigating the high-profile Louvre robbery, while others believed the picture had been generated by artificial intelligence.
The German magazine Spiegel shed light on the mystery: the “detective” from the Louvre is Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux, a 15-year-old schoolboy.
On the day of the robbery, the boy and his mother had planned to visit the museum and arrived a few hours after the incident. The photographer took the picture as they approached the police to ask what had happened.

“It’s all about the hat,” his mother laughed, explaining that her son often dresses that way.

As it turned out, neither the mother nor the son noticed the photographer, and they only learned about the viral image from friends.
Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux said he was pleased that people mistook him for a detective — though he doesn’t see himself pursuing that profession.

“For France, the Louvre robbery is a very sad story. But this one — the story of the ‘detective’ — is a beautiful one. There are so many viral stories on the Internet that are ugly or silly, and this one is actually clever and kind,” said his mother, Felicite Garzon Delvaux.
