Inmates demolish a swimming pool that used to be one of the luxurious amenities of a makeshift hut or ‘kubo’ at the Medium Security Compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa. The controversial pool was said to have been ordered constructed in 2000 by Jerry Pepino, an inmate serving time for kidnapping and serious illegal detention who has since been transferred to the Maximum Security Compound. A security watchtower is located only a few meters from the ‘kubol’ pool. (Federico Cruz)
