Tengrinews.kz - Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, reports the press service, citing Akorda.
The meeting focused on prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and the International Atomic Energy Agency, as well as pressing issues on the international nuclear safety and security agenda.
The President noted that Kazakhstan highly values its long-standing partnership with the IAEA, as well as the Agency's contribution under Rafael Grossi's leadership to strengthening nuclear safety and the peaceful use of atomic energy.

"Your first visit to Kazakhstan in April 2023 gave additional impetus to our cooperation. I believe that on issues of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, we speak the same language. At the same time, the world is facing a very ambiguous situation that requires joining efforts to develop common approaches to solving global problems," President Tokayev said.

He also welcomed the signing of a roadmap to deepen Kazakhstan's cooperation with the IAEA until 2036, along with several documents in the fields of nuclear medicine and science.
Rafael Grossi highly commended Kazakhstan's unwavering commitment to strengthening global nuclear safety and the non-proliferation regime.

"He noted Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's international standing and his consistent role in promoting dialogue, nuclear safety, and multilateral cooperation. The Director General congratulated our country on the commencement of the nuclear energy development program, following the decision made through the national referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant," the Akorda press service noted.

The President of Kazakhstan stated the country's firm commitment to continue making practical contributions to international efforts to strengthen nuclear safety and interstate trust.

"In this context, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reaffirmed our country's readiness, solely as a gesture of goodwill, to facilitate a resolution regarding the Iranian nuclear program, provided the relevant international agreements are in place. Rafael Grossi, noting Kazakhstan's role and practical contribution to strengthening global nuclear safety, expressed support for our country's noble intentions," reported the Akorda press service.

The IAEA chief emphasized that Kazakhstan possesses the necessary political authority, infrastructure, and scientific and technical base to implement potential agreements.
The President also wished Rafael Grossi success in his candidacy for the post of UN Secretary-General.
