Heat in Almaty breaks record that had stood since 1945
Tengrinews.kz — Extreme heat in Almaty continues to break long-standing temperature highs. After the record set on July 16, new temperature records were also recorded on July 17 and 18.
According to Daulet Kisebayev, head of the weather forecasting department for Almaty and Almaty Region, the maximum air temperature in Almaty reached +39.2 degrees Celsius on July 17. The previous record for this date was +37.4 degrees and was set in 1945. Thus, the new high exceeded the previous one by 1.8 degrees.
The next day, July 18, thermometers rose to +40 degrees. This also became a new record for that date. The previous high, +39.7 degrees, was recorded in 1997.
On July 19, the record for that date was not broken. According to Kazhydromet, the maximum air temperature was +41.2 degrees, while the current record for July 19 is +41.7 degrees, recorded in 1997. Thus, the temperature fell 0.5 degrees short of the record.
Earlier, on July 16, the air temperature in Almaty reached +38 degrees, exceeding the previous record set in 1976, when the temperature stood at +36.1 degrees.
Absolute July record has not yet been broken
Despite the series of new highs, Almaty’s absolute temperature record for July remains unchanged. It stands at +43.4 degrees and was set in 1983.

On July 22, partly cloudy weather is expected, with occasional rain and thunderstorms. Southwesterly winds of 3–8 meters per second are forecast. Air temperatures will be +22...+24 degrees at night and strong heat of +28...+30 degrees during the day.
