Photos at the polling station: What is allowed and what is not, the CEC explains

0

Tengrinews.kz — On election day, voters may wish to document their visit to the polling station—for instance, by taking a commemorative photo or showing the voting process in action. However, certain restrictions apply. Lyazzat Suindik, a member of the Central Election Commission, outlined these rules.
What restrictions are in place
Kazakhstani citizens are permitted to take photographs at polling stations.
However, it is forbidden to photograph a completed ballot in a way that reveals the individual's choice, or to distribute such images.

"A voter's right to take photos at a polling station is not restricted. Photos can be taken, including near the ballot box or while casting a ballot, provided the voter's choice of party is not visible. Once election day concludes, the ban on distributing such materials is lifted," Lyazzat Suindik stated.

The CEC also issued a separate reminder regarding restrictions on publishing poll results and forecasts. Five days prior to the vote and on election day itself, it is prohibited to publish opinion poll results, election outcome forecasts, or other election-related research in the media or on online platforms.
On the day of the vote, conducting public opinion polls directly inside polling premises or stations is prohibited.
Exit polls are the exception. These may be conducted by organizations that have notified the CEC in advance. A list of such organizations is available on the commission's official website.
Election schedule
On August 23, Kazakhstan will hold elections for deputies of the new unicameral Parliament—the Kurultai. This will mark the country's tenth parliamentary election since 1991 and the first since the adoption of the new Constitution.
Seven parties are participating in the elections. The composition of the party lists is distributed as follows:

Ak Zhol Democratic Party of Kazakhstan – 63 candidates;
Auyl People's Democratic Patriotic Party – 69 candidates;
Adilet Party (which includes the Amanat party) – 186 candidates;
Baytaq Kazakhstan Green Party – 47 candidates;
People's Party of Kazakhstan (NPK) – 72 candidates;
Nationwide Social Democratic Party (OSDP) – 33 candidates.
Respublica Party – 76 candidates.

As a reminder: starting July 1, Kazakhstan officially entered a "new era" as the country's new Constitution came into effect.
Following the constitutional reform, Mazhilis and Senate ceased operations and their deputies were dissolved. Now, instead of a bicameral Parliament, the Kurultai will serve as the nation's legislative body. Following the election results, the new Parliament will consist of 145 deputies.
