“Time to take responsibility”: PM Bektenov addresses new cabinet
The head of government made the remarks at a Cabinet meeting.
“At this new stage of the country’s political and economic modernization, following the adoption of the new Constitution, we are all obliged to take comprehensive measures to ensure Kazakhstan’s further socioeconomic development. In every sector and area, the tasks set by the Head of State must be implemented systematically and comprehensively,” Olzhas Bektenov said.
The Prime Minister stressed that the constitutional principles of “Law and Order” and “Taza Qazaqstan” should remain at the core of the work of state bodies.
“The government must work proactively and take comprehensive measures. Now is the time to assume full responsibility and make the necessary decisions promptly in order to achieve concrete results. We must all fully justify the President’s high level of trust,” the Prime Minister told members of the government.
Context
On August 28, Kazakhstan’s government resigned before the newly elected Kurultai. Until the new Cabinet was approved, ministers continued to perform their duties.
On August 31, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev again nominated Olzhas Bektenov for the post of Prime Minister. His candidacy was supported by 137 of 144 Kurultai deputies, while seven abstained. The President then signed a decree appointing Bektenov.
A new Cabinet was later formed. Out of 25 positions, including the Prime Minister, four ministers were replaced, meaning the government’s composition was renewed by 16 percent.
