Tokayev proposed bringing the “Washington Model“ for AI development to the UN level

Tengrinews.kz — President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has endorsed the "Washington model" for the safe and responsible development of artificial intelligence technologies, citing Akorda.
The third meeting of the Artificial Intelligence Development Council, chaired by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, was held at Akorda. During the meeting, the Head of State noted that U.S. President Donald Trump and the heads of major technology companies recently signed a voluntary agreement on the safe and responsible development of artificial intelligence technologies.

"I welcome this very important and timely initiative. It reflects a shared understanding that the risks associated with artificial intelligence transcend national borders and require coordinated action from both states and the private sector," Tokayev said.

According to Tokayev, the agreement signed in Washington, after thorough expert review, could be considered by all interested countries as a model for global implementation in the field of artificial intelligence.

"I believe the 'Washington model' could become the basis for an international treaty under UN auspices. Kazakhstan supports the safe and responsible development of artificial intelligence. In this regard, we are ready to serve as a platform for constructive international dialogue on these matters. Our Council has already proven its practical value. Therefore, I ask its members to submit specific proposals for Kazakhstan's international initiative in this field as soon as possible. Our shared vision will be presented at the G20 summit in Miami this December," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev concluded.
