Drank four energy drinks a day: Almaty man requires emergency surgery

Tengrinews.kz — Surgeons in Almaty saved a young man with a perforated stomach ulcer and peritonitis. Doctors said the patient had been drinking three to four cans of energy drinks a day for several months.
The man was taken to the Central City Clinical Hospital with sudden severe abdominal pain. An examination revealed a perforated stomach ulcer — a dangerous condition in which a hole forms through the wall of the organ. The complication led to peritonitis, or inflammation of the abdominal cavity.
Surgeons had to operate urgently
Hospital surgeon Ilyas Sagiyev explained that when an ulcer perforates, stomach contents enter the abdominal cavity and cause inflammation. This condition requires emergency medical treatment.
Doctors immediately performed surgery, closing the hole in the stomach wall and cleaning the abdominal cavity. After treatment, the man’s condition improved, and he has already been discharged home under the supervision of a surgeon.

According to the patient, he had been consuming three to four cans of energy drinks every day for several months.
Doctors warn that excessive consumption of energy drinks can cause gastrointestinal discomfort and worsen heartburn and nausea. People with stomach conditions, including peptic ulcers, should pay particular attention to their diet.

“It cannot be said that energy drinks caused the ulcer perforation in this patient. However, consuming them in large quantities is not recommended, especially for people with stomach conditions,” Ilyas Sagiyev emphasized.
