A 160-hectare farm in Batangas has started producing, not the usual crops, but electricity from some 200,000 solar panels arrayed over a vast tract of previously unproductive land in Calatagan, Batangas. Solar Philippines will be producing 63 megawatts of power in this solar farm. It has plans for similar operations in Mindanao and other parts of Luzon, for a total production capacity of 150 megawatts by midyear. This is the same company that initiated the installation of solar panels on the roofs of shopping malls in Metro Manila, notably SM North EDSA in Quezon City, producing electricity for local consumption.
