Mudslinging that is accompanying the ongoing campaign of candidates for the May 9, 2016 national elections only exposes some people’s unbridled “thirst for positions” and reflects the “sad state of politics.” Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle stressed this yesterday as he lamented the manner by which most politicians conduct their campaign, most often characterized by character assassination. “There’s been a lot of mudslinging. Regardless of whether it’s true or not, come what may, as long as the rival is overthrown,” he said in a CBCP News post. Cardinal Tagle said this “Gospel of success” has misguided many people from various sectors and even in the workplaces where crab mentality is common. “And once the opponent falls, you’ll declare, ‘It is finished!’” Tagle said.
