PNP asked to ensure public safety in the wake of poll-related killings

A House leader asked yesterday the Philippine National Police (PNP) to step up efforts to ensure public safety following the 14 election-related killings recorded by the Commission on Human Rights (CHR). Marikina Rep. Miro Quimbo, a Liberal Party stalwart said he was relying on the PNP to beef up its security efforts as CHR chairman Chito Gascon disclosed that there were at least 14 election-related killings in different parts of the country since the start of the campaign period in February. “The level of election violence will continue to persist as with many emerging nations. They literally go together,” he warned.
