Vitangcol faces new graft raps for multi-million extort try

The Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) has ordered the filing of another set of graft and corruption charges against Al S. Vitangcol III, former Metro Rail Transit Authority (MRTA) General Manager, and Wilson De Vera of PH Trams for alleged $30 million extortion try against Czech company Inekon and for insisting on the latter to enter into a joint venture with a group of persons for the maintenance of Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3). Vitangcol was also found administratively guilty of two counts each of grave misconduct, serious dishonesty and unlawful solicitation and was ordered dismissed from the service. Due to his separation from the service, however, the penalty of dismissal is convertible to a fine equivalent to respondent’s one year salary. Vitangcol was also ordered perpetually disqualified to hold public office, with forfeiture of retirement benefits, cancellation of eligibility and ban from taking the civil service examination.
