By Ruby De Vera – Portnoy The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), joined in two musical pieces by Cecile Licad, made its debut on Saturday at the Stern Auditorium of Carnegie Hall in New York City, one of the most prestigious venues in the world for classical and popular music. The country’s premier orchestra was made part of Carnegie Hall’s history, just as the historic New York landmark is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. The PPO performed the music of classical legends like Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (who opened the Carnegie Hall with its very first performance in 1891), Enrico Caruso, Maria Callas, and Sergei Rachmaninoff, as well as pop culture heroes like The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Luciano Pavarotti.
