Thanks to erosion, Hurricane Matthew made Kiawah a slightly smaller island

Hurricane Matthew did relatively little damage to homes on Kiawah Island, but its surge and pounding waves pushed the island’s beach landward from 10 to 220 feet, a survey from the town said.
