Lady Captain’s Weekly News 10th February 2025

The club is relatively quiet which is usual for this time of year. Gary and I had our meeting with Borja where we discussed the narrowness of our tee boxes and the GUR, asking for it to be more clearly marked, which was also discussed in our commission meeting. As a result, Stephen, Gary & Joachim went round the course on Friday to check. This is always a tough time of year on the course as the grass is dormant. Joachim will be sending us an update.

EXCITING NEWS

The Past Captain’s committee have made their decision for our new vices. I would like to congratulate both Jules Hale and Patrick O’Sullivan on their appointment. Svetlana and Jules will be a force to be reckoned with!

Again, not great scoring from the rest of the field – I think we are all still getting used to the early start. We have so many layers on first thing, which makes movement difficult – Well, that is my excuse!!!

I now understand why it is called 3 Club Challenge it really was challenging – you do not want to be in bunkers and from the scores you can see how tough it was. That is why it is called a ‘Fun Competition’. I am sure we all managed to laugh or cry!!! This is what happens when you try to get out of a bunker with a rescue club Anne’s ball plugged – she did get a free drop and got out. She managed a fab bunker shot on the 11th hole.

We also had a couple of young pros playing Anders Ejlersen & Victor Bjorlow who scored 32 & 31 – well done to them.

COURSE MAINTENANCE

● Fill the lake on the 9th hole
● Treat mulch area for weeds
● Greens will be treated with a phyto-fortifier
● Apply pre-emergent on fairways to prevent poa
● New manhole on 13th hole

Looking at diary we have two mixed competitions to play. These have not proved popular, so I have decided to change them both to a normal ladies federated competition. Thursday 20th February & Thursday 20th March.
