Scientists have made revolutionary breakthrough in the IVF procedure
Tengrinews.kz - Biotech company Gameto, specializing in women's health and in vitro fertilization (IVF), announced the world’s first live birth using Fertilo technology, according to the Science portal.
This method could revolutionize infertility treatment by reducing hormone use and simplifying the IVF process.
Typically, women undergo a two-week course of hormonal stimulation to mature their eggs. The new method uses engineered young ovarian cells to replicate the natural egg maturation process in the lab, replacing about 80% of procedures required in conventional IVF.
This reduces treatment duration to three days and minimizes side effects and risks associated with high hormone doses, such as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.
“The approach makes the process safer and less stressful for patients. It delivers results comparable to traditional IVF but with a lower risk of complications,” said Dr. Luis Guzman, head of the laboratory and lead researcher of the study.
The mother of the baby born through the new method noted that the procedure was less painful and emotionally more comfortable than standard methods.
The technology opens new horizons in reproductive medicine. Researchers consider it a significant step toward creating accessible and safe solutions for those facing infertility issues. The method has already been approved for use in several countries.
