Apartment with criminal equipment found in Almaty
Tengrinews.kz - New cases of criminal equipment use have been identified in Almaty.
According to the Almaty prosecutor's office, employees of the Cyberpol unit, together with telecom operators, found SIM-box equipment in the suspect's rented apartment during operational activities. More than 200 SIM cards of Kazakhstani mobile operators, five mobile phones, 32 antennas, a laptop and a router were seized from him.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched against the suspect under Article 213 of the Criminal Code ("Illegal use of programs that change identification codes").
"This is already the fourth identified case of the use of SIM-box equipment since November of this year. More than 19 000 suspicious international calls made from 9 500 SIM cards of Kazakhstani operators have been blocked," the report says.

At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports another case of criminal equipment being found in Almaty in a rented apartment. In this situation, a GSM gateway with 36 slots was found, inside which 63 SIM cards of various mobile operators were placed.
"During the special operation, a 22-year-old man was detained, who performed the functions of a mini-PBX administrator," the information states.
A criminal case was opened against the suspect by the Almaly District Police Department. The suspect was taken into custody.
Earlier, employees of the Department for Combating Cybercrime with the Cyberpol of the Almaty Police Department detained a foreign citizen who used illegal SIM-box equipment.
