Former Canadian Prime Minister asked Trump to come to his senses

0

Tengrinews.kz - Former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien spoke out about the scandalous proposal of US President-elect Donald Trump to join the country to America.
The former Canadian Prime Minister responded to the publication of US maps with Canada annexed, saying that Canadians value their independence, and threats and insults will not convince them otherwise.

"To Donald Trump, from one old guy to another, give your head a shake!" the 91-year-old politician wrote, addressing 78-year-old Trump.

The former prime minister recalled that Canada entered two world wars before the United States, fighting and "sacrificing far more than we could have imagined."
He emphasized that Canada had the courage to reject the United States' offer to drag the country into an unjustified and destabilizing war in Iraq.
At the same time, the former prime minister appealed to current federal and local politicians in Canada to show determination and resilience.

"But you don't win hockey by playing defense alone. We all know that even when we meet one demand, Mr. Trump comes back with another, even bigger demand. This is not diplomacy, this is blackmail. We need a different approach that will break this vicious circle," he added.

Jean Chretien served as Prime Minister of Canada from 1993 to 2003.
Previously, Trump wrote on the Truth Social social network that "if Canada united with the United States," both countries would benefit. Back in late November, he announced 25 percent tariffs on imports from Canada.
