Unfair? Passenger forced to give up his seat to a dog
Tengrinews.kz - A passenger gave up his seat on a plane to a dog.
A Reddit user FullAbbreviations605 shared an unusual incident that happened to him during a flight from Detroit to San Francisco. His story caused an active discussion among social network users.
According to the passenger, the plane was completely full, and he took a window seat, which he had chosen and paid for in advance. But before takeoff, he had to move to an aisle seat because of another passenger's dog.
"This guy who was originally sitting in the aisle seat on the other side of the aisle from me gets up and moves to the aisle next to me. He sets down a piece of luggage at his feet that clearly won’t fit under the seat. It turned out that it was his dog," the author of the story said.
As it became known later, another person with a dog was also sitting in his previous passenger seat. The flight attendants took note of the situation and asked the author of the story to give up his window seat to make way for the safety of all passengers.
"So, yeah, I had to give up my window seat so this guy who clearly didn’t plan ahead could accommodate his dog. I didn’t complain much but certainly seemed wrong to me. Meanwhile the guy with the dog never said a word to me about it," the passenger noted.
The story caused a wave of indignation among the platform's users. Many criticized the airline for such a decision and advised the author to seek a refund.
"I would contact delta and ask for any charge you had for a seat refunded. Other than that not much else you can do. I’m surprised they let him fly with a dog crate that wouldn’t fit under the seat," one of the commentators wrote.
Others were surprised that the airline allowed such a situation to happen.
"Pet dogs have to be pre-paid- they only allow so many in the main cabin. Also, if the carrier doesn’t fit under the seat, the Check-in agent isn’t supposed to let them on," another user noted.
Some expressed sympathy for the passenger.
"You’re a better person than I am. I specifically book window seats because they help mitigate motion sickness," another commenter shared.
The comments also touched on the rules for air transportation of pets. According to users, a fee of about $100 (about 53 thousand tenge) is usually charged for transporting a dog in the cabin one way. In addition, the pet carrier must fit completely under the seat.
"Also, if the carrier doesn’t fit under the seat, the Check-in agent isn’t supposed to let them on," one of the participants in the discussion explained.
Some expressed the opinion that animals should not be given priority over people.
"This is complete nonsense. A dog should never, under any circumstances, be given priority over a person," the commenter emphasized.
