Tragic poisoning: Foreign family found dead in Kazakhstan

Tengrinews.kz - A criminal case has been opened into the death of a family of seven people in the Mangystau region. The circumstances of the tragedy are being investigated, the investigation is ongoing.
On March 2, a case of family poisoning occurred in a private house in the village of Baskuduk, Munaily district, Mangystau region. Rescuers and ambulance crews who arrived to provide assistance found the bodies of seven people at the scene, including five minors. All of them died on the spot. A commission has been created in Munaily district to investigate the causes of the family's gas poisoning.

"A commission headed by the First Deputy akim (governor - ed.)a of the Mangystau region, Erbol Izbergenov, has been created to investigate the causes of the emergency. The relatives of the deceased family will be provided with comprehensive assistance, including burial," the press service of the akim of the Mangystau region reported earlier.

According to the relatives and neighbors of the deceased family, the cause of the tragedy could have been an icy chimney in the house, due to which carbon monoxide stopped escaping and began to accumulate in the home. They told KTK journalists about this.
Deputy akim of the Mangystau region, Erbol Izbergenov, said that the relatives will be provided with comprehensive support.

"The relatives of the deceased family are provided with comprehensive assistance. In particular, support will be provided in organizing the funeral. The situation is under the personal control of the akim of the Mangystau region," Izbergenov said.

According to the preliminary version, the tragedy was caused by a violation of the rules for operating gas equipment. Rescuers claim that they regularly check the stoves in the village and conduct explanatory talks with residents. However, for some reason, the house where the tragedy occurred was not included in the list of those being checked.

"Regarding this house... We conducted agitation in this area, went around more than 500 yards, over 3 thousand residents. But we did not conduct agitation in this house," explained the deputy head of the Department of Emergency Situations of the Mangystau region, Alexander Alekseyev.

A special commission is investigating all the circumstances of the incident. They promised to make the results of the investigation public.

"A criminal case has been opened regarding the poisoning of a family with carbon monoxide in the Munaily district. The circumstances of the incident are being clarified, the investigation is ongoing. The case is under the control of the police department management," the Mangystau Department of Emergency Situations told the editorial board.

Earlier, there was a mass food poisoning of students in grades 1-4 in the Mangystai region. 466 students were affected, and 98 of them were hospitalized, including two in intensive care. All children were subsequently discharged from the hospital.
Later, the regional prosecutor's office reported that the school cafeteria workers were convicted of mass poisoning of children.
