Kazakhstan broke 81-year-old temperature record
Tengrinews.kz – According to data from the RSE "Kazhydromet," March 2025 was one of the warmest months in Kazakhstan over the past decade.
The average temperature across the country exceeded the climate norm by 1–5 degrees. From March 16 to 22, several regions recorded new temperature records, surpassing those set just a couple of years ago in 2023—which had been considered the warmest year in Kazakhstan’s meteorological history.
For example, in Uralsk on March 16, the temperature reached +19.2°C, far above the climatic norm of +12.1°C.
In Aktobe on March 17, temperatures rose to +13.4°C (+9.3°C norm).
In Petropavl on March 18, the temperature reached +10.9°C, breaking the 2023 record of +4.0°C. The next day, March 19, temperatures climbed to +12.6°C, significantly surpassing the previous record of +4.2°C from 2015.
In Kokshetau on March 18–19, the thermometer hit +11.9°C, breaking the 2013 record of +7.4°C and the 1970 record of +6.1°C.
In Kostanay on March 18, temperatures reached +9.1°C, beating the 2023 record of +5.1°C. On March 19, the temperature climbed to +14°C, outpacing the 2020 record of +6.2°C.
In Pavlodar on March 18, the temperature hit +8.8°C, setting a new maximum and surpassing the 2007 record of +6.6°C. On March 20, it reached +14.4°C, breaking the 2016 record of +10.2°C.
In Karaganda on March 19, the temperature reached +10.1°C, exceeding the 2013 record of +8.2°C.
In Astana on March 20, the temperature was +9.1°C—the highest ever recorded for that date, surpassing the 2016 figure of +7.1°C.
New record highs were also observed in the southeast and east of the country. In Almaty on March 18, temperatures reached +19.5°C, beating the 2001 record of +19.2°C. On March 21, the maximum temperature rose to +24.8°C, surpassing the previous 2018 record of +23.1°C.
On March 21 in the East Kazakhstan region, the weather station in Semey recorded a daytime temperature of +14.6°C, exceeding the historical 81-year-old record from 1944 (+10.8°C). In Ust-Kamenogorsk, the temperature reached +15.9°C, breaking the 2010 record of +10.3°C.
March also brought extreme weather events across various regions, including sharp temperature swings, fog, snowstorms, and squally winds.
