Tengrinews.kz - Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan chaired the fifth meeting of the Kazakhstan–Turkey High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council on Tuesday, July 29, citing Akorda press service. During the session, President Tokayev emphasized that Kazakh-Turkish cooperation—rooted in shared historical and spiritual values—is steadily developing within the framework of an enhanced strategic partnership.
“We are committed to advancing this path and bringing our relationship to a higher level. Mr. President, I highly appreciate the results of our talks held in a narrow format earlier. We reaffirmed our mutual dedication to expanding cooperation. We have both the capacity and enthusiasm to do so. A solid legal framework is in place, with more than 60 bilateral treaties and agreements currently in effect. Several new agreements will be signed today,” Tokayev said.
The meeting focused on boosting mutual trade. Last year, bilateral trade volume reached $5 billion. Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan is ready to supply at least 34 types of products to the Turkish market, totaling $1 billion in value. He also noted the importance of diversifying imports from Turkey. Both sides highlighted the vital role of transport and logistics in expanding trade. Tokayev underlined Kazakhstan’s commitment to developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and expressed interest in attracting Turkish investment in modern railways, dry ports, freight terminals, and shipbuilding projects. Earlier, the presidents of Kazakhstan and Turkey held talks, during which they discussed prospects for further strengthening their strategic partnership. The leaders focused in particular on expanding trade and economic ties, investment cooperation, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges. President Tokayev thanked his Turkish counterpart for the warm welcome, while President Erdoğan reaffirmed his commitment to taking bilateral relations to a new level. A few hours before the meeting, a formal welcoming ceremony was held for Tokayev at the Presidential Complex in Ankara. An honor guard was assembled in his honor, and the presidential motorcade was escorted by a mounted cavalry unit. Erdoğan personally welcomed Tokayev at the palace. National anthems were played, accompanied by a 21-gun salute. The leaders inspected the honor guard and introduced members of their delegations before beginning official talks. President Tokayev arrived in Ankara on July 28 for his official visit. At Ankara Esenboga Airport, he was met personally by President Erdoğan. A ceremonial honor guard had also been assembled at the foot of the aircraft steps. Such personal receptions by Erdoğan are rare and typically reserved for leaders of especially friendly nations. During his visit to Ankara, Tokayev has already held several meetings with representatives of Turkish companies.
