Tengrinews.kz – Authorities have yet to determine who was at fault in the massive crash involving nearly 100 vehicles that occurred on January 3, 2025, in the Akmola Region. During a press conference, Chairman of the Board of the national road operator KazAvtoZhol, Darkhan Imanashev, confirmed that an investigation is still ongoing.
"A criminal case has been initiated regarding this accident. Court proceedings are underway, but no one has been officially held responsible yet," he stated.
The pileup, which left 20 people injured — including eight children — caused significant damage to dozens of vehicles, some of them brand-new. According to Imanashev, traffic cameras recorded several drivers exceeding the speed limit.
"I want to emphasize that road services and police did everything necessary to ensure safe passage. However, some drivers were recorded speeding through the area," he added.
Imanashev also addressed another major collision involving 17 vehicles on the Almaty–Konaev highway. He said thick fog and active speed restrictions were in place at the time.
"There were also cases of drivers violating speed limits. The legal process is ongoing, but no claims for damages or compensation have been filed against us so far," Imanashev said.
