Situation could pose threats to national security — Tokayev gives instructions to security agencies
Tengrinews.kz — President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting at the Financial Monitoring Agency. During the meeting, the Head of State congratulated agency employees on their professional holiday — the Day of Financial Monitoring Bodies, citing Akorda.
Tokayev noted that the agency, established five years ago during a period of large-scale reforms in the country, has successfully coped with the tasks assigned to it.
“Overall, a great deal of work has been done in a relatively short time, and valuable experience has been accumulated. Today, the agency has become an independent structure playing an important role in the system of economic and national security. This is a direct result of your hard work and dedication to duty. I thank all employees of the agency. However, now is not the time for complacency. We face ambitious goals and large-scale tasks. In an era of rapid development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, we need a fundamentally new approach to our work. I have already spoken about this in my interview with the newspaper Turkistan and at the National Kurultai,” the President said.
Tokayev described the large-scale introduction of digital solutions and artificial intelligence systems into the agency’s operations as an urgent and critically important task.
“It is obvious that effective work is impossible without this. Today, the confrontation between law enforcement agencies and the criminal world has moved into the technological domain. Criminals are actively using artificial intelligence. If law enforcement agencies, including the Agency for Financial Monitoring, fall behind technologically, this situation could lead to threats to national security. To keep pace with the times, we must act proactively and make well-considered decisions. Relying on the best digital solutions, law enforcement agencies must, through systematic and active work, ensure the speed and quality of the transformations taking place in the country. This is especially important in the context of Kazakhstan’s large-scale economic transformation,” Tokayev emphasized.
Earlier, on January 12, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received AFM Chairman Zhanat Elimanov. The President was briefed on the agency’s key results for 2025 and its objectives for the upcoming period.
